From the historic brick and vintage warmth of Depot Town to the tranquil waters of Riverside Park and the Huron River, Aperture captures your authentic love story with timeless editorial artistry and zero awkward posing.
We believe an engagement session should feel like the best date of your week—relaxed, fun, and completely true to the two of you.
No awkward poses or forced smiles. We guide you through natural interactions, playful movement, and real laughter so you look relaxed and effortless on camera.
From the golden glow hitting East Cross Street brick to quiet sunset pockets along the Huron River Tridge, we know the exact timing, secret corners, and light angles across Ypsilanti.
Rooted in former Apple visual design rigor. Rich, true-to-life color grading, skin tone fidelity, and cinematic composition crafted for save-the-dates, fine art albums, and home displays.
Ypsilanti blends 19th-century industrial-chic brick, tranquil river corridors, and expansive lake vistas within minutes of each other.
Cobblestone charm, vintage neon signage, the historic Freighthouse, and warm red brick facades provide timeless urban romance and authentic texture.
Wide-open riverbanks, the iconic wooden triple-bridge (Tridge) connecting to Frog Island, weeping willows, and breathtaking golden hour reflections on the Huron River.
Lush wooded tree lines, grassy open fields, and peaceful waterside paths offering an intimate, nature-filled escape just steps from Depot Town.
Stately limestone columns at Pease Auditorium, collegiate arches, Welch Hall architecture, and tree-lined quads for elegant, editorial-level couple portraits.
Curving wooden boardwalks stretching over open lake waters, viewing towers, and tall wetland grasses that glow during spectacular Michigan sunset evenings.
Vibrant street murals, Water Street art walls, and cozy local spots like Corner Brewery beer garden or Hyperion Coffee for authentic, playful date-night moments.
Whether your vibe is quiet, romantic intimacy or bold, architectural editorial flair, we tailor each session to showcase your unique story.
Warm sunset light shimmering across the Huron River or Ford Lake boardwalks. We prioritize motion, closeness, and gentle laughter that feels unposed and full of heart.
Leveraging Depot Town's Victorian brick textures, the collegiate symmetry of EMU, and modern negative space for polished, magazine-worthy portraits.
We handle the details so all you have to do is show up, enjoy each other, and have fun.
Select complementary palettes—creams, camel, sage, terracotta, slate, or muted navy. Avoid matching identically in plain white tees and blue jeans.
We schedule 60 to 90 minutes before sunset along Riverside Park or Ford Lake when the low sun casts long, flattering shadows and rich skin tones.
Ypsilanti's charm is proximity. We easily combine historic red brick in Depot Town with nature along the Huron River Tridge in one easy evening.
Planning a surprise proposal? We help you map the exact footbridge or park vantage point, provide decoy strategy, and capture the reaction with complete stealth.
Read what couples throughout Washtenaw County have shared about working with Damion and Aperture.
"Damion was amazing! We did our engagement session in Depot Town and walked over to Riverside Park. He made us feel so comfortable right away, and the photos blew us away. Everyone asked who our photographer was for our save-the-dates!"
"I worked with Damion to plan a secret surprise proposal on the Huron River footbridge. He had the timing mapped down to the minute, was completely hidden, and captured the moment she said YES perfectly. Truly unforgettable!"
"Neither of us had ever taken professional photos before and we were super nervous about feeling awkward. Damion's prompts had us laughing within minutes. Our sunset boardwalk shots at Ford Lake look like they belong in a magazine!"
Engagement photography should feel like your relationship—warm, honest, and unforced. I believe the most unforgettable images happen when couples are allowed to simply be together, without rigid poses or artificial rules.
Drawing on my visual design background at Apple and over a decade photographing couples across Washtenaw County, I combine commercial lighting precision with an easygoing, conversational presence. Whether we're exploring the historic brick of Depot Town or catching sunset across the Huron River, my goal is to give you artwork that captures how you truly look and feel in love.
No surprise studio fees, no hidden minimum print purchases. Every package includes individually retouched high-resolution files with personal printing release.

Everything you need to know about planning, booking, and enjoying your session.
Depot Town and Riverside Park are our most popular pairing because you get historic red-brick architecture, vintage storefronts, and the Freighthouse, and then walk right across the Huron River Tridge into lush willow-lined riverbanks in less than two minutes! For expansive water views, North Bay Park on Ford Lake features incredible curving wooden boardwalks, while Eastern Michigan University's historic campus (Welch Hall, Pease Auditorium) offers stately limestone collegiate elegance.
We recommend a cohesive color palette of 2 to 3 complementary shades (warm creams, camel, muted navy, sage, terracotta, olive, or slate). Avoid matching identically in plain white shirts and jeans. For our Signature Story session, we encourage bringing two outfits: one dressier look (flowing dress, tailored blazer) and one casual outfit (denim, knit sweaters, leather boots) for great visual variety across brick and nature backdrops.
Nearly all of our couples tell us they feel awkward before we start! We never expect you to know how to pose or model. We guide you with conversational prompts, gentle movement, and playful interactions—walking together, whispering inside jokes, and focusing on each other rather than staring into the camera. Within ten minutes, you'll forget about the gear and simply enjoy being together.
Yes, absolutely! We love capturing surprise proposals. We coordinate in advance to map out the exact location (like the Huron River Tridge footbridge, Riverside Park willow grove, or the Depot Town Freighthouse), send you satellite pin drops, and arrive early to blend in with a telephoto lens. After you pop the question and celebrate the 'YES!', we immediately transition into a joyful engagement mini-session!
For autumn golden hour sessions along Depot Town and Riverside Park (late September through early November), we recommend reaching out 4 to 6 weeks in advance to secure peak foliage weekend dates. Spring and summer sessions can typically be scheduled with 2 to 3 weeks notice. If you are up against a Save-the-Date printing deadline, rush delivery is available upon request.
Yes, 100%! Dogs are welcome on leashes across Riverside Park, Frog Island, and North Bay Park. We recommend bringing a friend or family member along for the first 15–20 minutes to hold the leash so we can also capture intimate portraits of just the two of you. Celebratory props like champagne pops, a vintage picnic blanket, or acoustic guitars are also fantastic additions.
We monitor the radar closely 24 to 48 hours prior to your scheduled shoot. If heavy rain or thunderstorms are forecasted, we will reschedule your session to a clear sunset day at zero fee, or pivot to charming covered indoor locations like a local Depot Town coffee shop, brewery, or EMU indoor architecture if you prefer.
We provide a curated sneak peek gallery within 48 to 72 hours so you can share your favorite images right away. Your full high-resolution retouched gallery is delivered within 10 to 14 business days with a private download PIN and full personal printing release. You have unrestricted rights to print Save-the-Date cards, invitations, and upload to your wedding website.
Share your ideal timeframe, proposal plans, or favorite Ypsilanti spots. We'll reply within 24 hours with exact availability and park recommendations.
